The temple is an active one, with 70 resident monks at last court. The temple is built between 1911 and 1918 in the style of the Song Dynasty, with symmetrical halls and courtyards, upturned eaves, and bright yellow walls. The Bund, also called the Zhongshan Road, is a famous waterfront and regarded as the symbol of Shanghai for hundreds of years. The Shanghai Town God's Temple is adjacent to the Yu garden and also goes by the name of Old Town God's Temple.
