Beijing launches different one-day tours for overseas tourists

Chinanews, Beijing, Sept 18 – In order to let overseas tourists have a pleasant trip in China, the tourist bureau of Beijing's Xuanwu District on Monday launched a variety of one-day tours targeted at overseas tourists from different countries and regions. With several hundred yuan, they can visit most of the city's old downtown area in just one day.

Tourists from the United States and Europe can experience a Beijing native's typical life, which usually starts from doing the morning exercise. Tourists from Japan, South Korea and Southeast Asian nations will have a chance to taste Chinese tea to see how it is different from the tea they drink back home. In addition, they can watch the Peking Opera, appreciate traditional Chinese paintings and receive medical treatment from traditional Chinese medicine. For tourists from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, the package tour focuses on sites related with stories happening in the pre-Liberation days.

The sites chosen for such tours include Da Shi La'r Street, the Antique Street, Chinese Book Store, Nei Lian Sheng Shoe Store, Ma Lian Dao Tea Road, Da Shi-La'r Folk Culture Development Center, Xuannan Cultural Museum, and Zhang Yi Yuan Tea House, etc. All these places reflect the typical features of Beijing from certain aspect.

With a history of over 3,000 years, Xuanwu District has always been regarded as one of the most important old downtown areas in Beijing. In Xuanwu, there are many ancient buildings built at different times of the Chinese feudalistic societies, or even before that. They include the Fayuan Temple built in the Tang Dynasty (618A.D.–907A.D.), Tianning Temple Pagoda built in the Liao Dynasty (916A.D.–1125A.D.), and The Temple of Xiannong built in the Ming (1368A.D.–1644A.D.) and Qing (1644A.D.–1911A.D.) dynasties where the emperors worshipped the gods and goddesses.

Xuanwu District government has launched these new tourist products in preparation for the upcoming Beijing Olympic Games, said an official at Xuanwu tourist bureau.
