Chinanews, Lhasa, October 17 – A part of the famous Yarlungzangbo Canyon will be opened to Chinese backpackers in November, and it will be closed next May. From now on, every year in November to May, backpackers are allowed to travel in this 45-km part of the canyon, beginning at the entrance of the canyon and ending at the grand turning of the Yarlungzangbo River.
However, local tourism administration confirms that this area is temporarily not open to foreign tourists, taking environmental issues into consideration. At present, only very few tourist agencies in Tibet are allowed to organize such tours.
The opened area is located 1,000 m above sea level, and with marvelous scenes of maritime glacier climate. The backpackers will be able to experience both tropic and polar climates on the same day..
